But it does not stop there. We believe in continuous learning and growth, which is why our support does not end when you receive your CDL. As part of the Talon Logistics family, you will have access to ongoing resources.
During the first week of class our students will arrive for orientation. We will go over our class plan for the four-week program and what they can expect day to day during class. We kick off by reading the Nebraska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Manual as a class. There is no requirement for students to have their Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) prior to enrollment into our program so this is where we start the groundwork in educating our students on proper safe practices and knowledge that will be needed to get their CLPs, and how this will translate once we start our hands on training out on the range and road. While reading the CDL Manual we have many in-depth class discussions on the material contained within and practical application practices of the material. During our first week of class each student will also be assigned their online modules as part of the mandated curriculum. These modules will be assigned daily in class. Class discussions will be focused on these modules.
In our second week of class, we will begin our introductions on vehicle inspections. This is where we will learn all about commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) and their operating systems. We will go in depth discussing how each system in a CMV operates as well as learning how to spot defects, ensuring each student knows how to make sure any vehicle they operate is safe on the roadways. During the second week we will also introduce basic vehicle control and backing out on the range. In this section, we will discuss and apply the basic principles of safe vehicle control in forward motion and backing. In week two once each student has signed off on basic vehicle control after demonstrating their abilities, they will then be introduced to on-the-road driving. In this section we will discuss road situations and road safety as it relates to driving CMVs. Each student will begin to get time behind the wheel and gain experience in real world driving situations.
During the third week of class, we will practice practical applications of all the areas we have covered in class and begin to sharpen skills in the areas of vehicle inspections, backing maneuvers, and on the road driving. In the third week we will also be approaching the time at which many of the assigned modules will be completed
In the fourth week of class students will be able to display a comprehensive knowledge of all the material and skills that we have learned throughout the duration of class to this point. At this time, we will hone in the student's skills and begin preparations for the final state skills testing that will take place the following week.
Are you ready to kickstart your journey into the world of truck driving? Talon Logistics has got you covered with our comprehensive four-week course designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to hit the road with confidence.
