Are you ready to kickstart your journey into the world of truck driving? Talon Logistics has got you covered with our comprehensive four-week course designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to hit the road with confidence.
Our training program is not just about obtaining your Commercial Driver's License (CDL); it is about empowering you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to thrive in the ever-evolving world of the transportation and logistics industry.
Through a combination of classroom instruction, road experience, and real-world simulations, we are committed to shaping safer roads and fostering a community of skilled drivers. Our training is up to code with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), ensuring that you receive quality CDL training, right here in the state of Nebraska. From mastering vehicle operation, to honing your decision-making abilities, our program is designed to prepare you for success in the dynamic world of transportation.
During the first week of class, you will arrive for orientation. We will go over our class plan for the four-week program, and what is expected day-to-day during class. We kick off by reading the Nebraska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Manual as a class. There is no requirement for students to have their Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) prior to enrollment into our program, so this is where we start the groundwork in educating our students on proper safe driving practices and knowledge that will be needed to get their CLPs. While reading the CDL Manual we have many in-depth class discussions on the material contained within and practical application practices of the material. During our first week of class each student will also be assigned their online modules as part of the mandated curriculum. These modules will be assigned daily in class, with class discussions being focused on these modules.
Overview:
In our second week of class, the main focus is conducting vehicle inspections. This is where we will learn all about commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) and their operating systems. We will go in depth discussing how each system in a CMV operates, as well as learning how to spot defects. This ensures each student knows how to safely operate and maintain their vehicle. We will also introduce basic vehicle control and backing maneuvers on the range. In this section, we will discuss and apply the basic principles of safe vehicle operation in forward and backward motions. Once each student in the class has signed off on basic vehicle control after demonstrating their abilities, students will then be introduced to on-the-road driving. In this section we will discuss road situations and road safety as it relates to driving CMVs. Each student will begin to get time behind the wheel and gain hands-on experience in real world driving situations.
Overview:
During the third week of class, you will practice applying all the skills we have covered in class. You will begin to sharpen vehicle inspection skills, backing maneuvers, and on-the-road driving. Most of the assigned modules will also be completed during the third week of the training program.
Overview:
In the fourth week of class, students will be able to display a comprehensive knowledge of all the material and skills learned throughout the duration of the class to this point. At this time, you will hone in your skills and begin preparations for the final Nebraska State Skills Testing that takes place the following week. Once this test has been passes, you will be granted your CDL
